This is not only required because the specification defines that every network segment has to be galvanically separated from the others. This requirement ensures a generally high noise immunity and grants troublefree operation of the network. In most of these network segments only few slaves are connected, the current requirements thus are relatively low. Standard AS-Interface power supply units, however, are capable to deliver 2,5A or more and are oversized and consequently too expensive for these tasks.
The concept of the new AS-Interface power supply unit NT001 from ICS GmbH at Tettnang exactly addresses this issue. It delivers a nominal current of 1A and has extremely compact outer dimensions and an equally low price. Due to it’s high efficiency the Nt001 produces only little power losses and associated heat and, therefore, may be used very flexibly even in small distribution boxes in the field.
