In addition to internal monitoring functions it also features new input and output modi, such as a 4I/4O mode and a synchronous data IO mode.
The special AS-i safety mode minimises the start-up time and the need for components. This is made possible by the integrated code generator, which renders the deployment of an external microcontroller circuit for storage and administration of safety sequences superfluous. Further advantages of this product include the integrated electronic coil with a maximum power of 55mA, as well as its greatly improved electromagnetic compatibility compared with other AS-Interface ICs currently available on the market.
With the SAP5, components targeted at safety, such as emergency stop buttons, guard door surveillance and safety photoelectric barriers, can be integrated more easily and much cheaper into AS-Interface networks as till now. According to product type, the IC is applicable in slave modules, master modules, repeaters, bus-monitors or universally. The product type SAP51 is drop-in compatible with SAP4.1 (AS2702).
