Overview

The path to membership

The user group is open to manufacturers, users and institutions. Anyone who desires to support and promote the system is welcome.

The association has active and passive members. "Active" members are potential manufacturers of AS-Interface products (slaves, masters, electromechanical devices including cable, power suppliers, service equipment etc.). Active members have full voting rights. Passive membership is intended for educational or research institutions.

A form is provided for membership application. According to the statutes, approval of the technical commission and the board is required. After acceptance the new member receives the complete set of all technical documentation and is added to the general communication list. Ongoing contact between the association and the member is maintained through the business office.

Members are expected to name at least two contact persons at the company or institution to act as the "technical contact" and the "marketing contact" respectively and represent their company in the activities of the association. Mailings (including the AS-Interface News) are generally sent to these persons, who are responsible for distributing and documenting all materials within their organization. This includes in particular specification, profiles, rules and regulations, updates, as well as the internal newsletter from the "AS-Interface Members Homepage", through which much of the communication flows. The selected members of the technical commission and board directly receive documents pertaining to these activities.

Membership in the AS-International Association

The central user association considers itself a guardian of the common standard and as a central marketing organization. It is a link between the national associations, who function independently and who are responsible for local marketing activities of their own members. The central organization has also assumed responsibility for common marketing in Germany.

Through membership you support the common objectives and have an influence on the continued development of the system. Membership also offers you a variety of individual benefits for your company (see above).

In addition to the general benefits pertaining to marketing and technology, the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with other members is extremely valuable.

International or national association?

AS-International Association and the national user groups are organizational independent of each other. The central association is responsible for common technology and is the owner of the trademarks. It thus determines all fundamental issues, whereas the national associations are mainly involved in local marketing.

The ideal scenario is membership in the central user group and in the national associations of those countries in which the company is active. All associations strive to grow the organization within an economically meaningful framework. In order to avoid duplicate effort as much as possible, basic materials which are of general interest are exchanged between the various associations regardless of which group created them.
